……FROM THE BOG CHAIR – Fran Martin
The third quarter meeting of CFR’s BOG was held September 10, 2011 at the Holiday Inn Express in Davenport (I-4 & Hwy. 27). All Districts were represented by their Governors who reported that they continue to hold regular monthly meetings.
Competition Coordinator – Bill Martin – Shared the rental agreement for our upcoming Daytona event. An agreement is signed for each Daytona event. He shared the job description for Competition Coordinator which he had compiled. Our usual complement of 4th Quarter Daytona events will begin October 7-9 with Porsche Club of America and continue for three events in November (Italian Cars, HSR, Grand Am Tests), two in December (Audi Club, Grand Am Tests) and one January 6-8 (Grand Am Tests). We will need registration assistance as well as our usual support staff. The PCA and HSR events typically have large entries. The 12 Hours of Sebring for 2012 will be the 60th running of the event as well as the 70th anniversary of the Airport and the 100th anniversary of the town of Sebring itself. Look for extra advertising, activities and changes in parking and ticket costs. The latest version of CFR’s hat has arrived and will be given to the Specialty Chiefs for distribution.
Financial – Jim Magero, Financial Advisor, reported on the move to Wells Fargo Advisors. The Wells Fargo portfolio review will provide more in depth information. The market continues to be volatile but expectations are for good returns in the next eighteen months. Our Treasurer, Robin Ragaglia, provided reports to the Governors including Balance Sheets and a Statement of Revenue and Expenses. She reported that our income has remained positive for the first three months of our fiscal year (June – August). We still need to manage our funds appropriately.
Membership – Joyce Hayward – CFR membership continues to decline from previous years. We currently have 2097 members according to the most recent list from National. Joyce will be participating in a special trial membership drive along with six other membership chairs across the nation. They will be contacting former members who have not renewed and offering them a special discounted rate to renew. The National Office has initiated this program in the hopes of reclaiming former members and improving membership retention.
Area 3 Director – Robin Langlotz – As a reminder, HANS devices will be required as of January 2012. He will be attending the Runoffs, the weekend of Sept. 24th and expects meetings with competitors, CRB and the Board of Directors.
Race Board – Robin Langlotz – Confirmed that we are losing personnel. We need staff at our events. Our October Sebring Race will be the last regional points race for this year; next year’s points compilation begins with the November Turkey Trot event. The TES series will take the place of the ‘Spec Challenge’ next year and we will hold at least two PDX events next year.
RE – Chuck Dawson – We are continuing to evaluate a ‘race into the dark’ enduro format. The TES program is viable and has helped to increase car count for Florida Region; the TES finale will be in early November at Palm Beach. We are looking at the possibility of event t-shirts for the 2012 January National and possibly the 2012 Turkey Trot. In the interest of improving our communications, your Executive Committee has been holding monthly conference calls to discuss items that may come up between our regular BOG meetings. Dave MacGregor has been working on a program where workers can gain points based on how many event days they work. These points could then be redeemed for various types of awards. Program is still in the fine-tuning stages.
Solo – Chuck Lutz – Solo has held four events since the June BOG – two at Brooksville and two at Deland. Entries have averaged around 45 with the exception of the July Deland event which had 80. There will be a two day event on the Kart track at Daytona coinciding with the race September 24 and 25 with a different course layout each day. We also have a Tire Rack Street Survival School (TRSSS) scheduled for Saturday, October 15th at Geneva. Contact Art Trier for more information about this event. Several initiatives have been implemented to increase awareness and turnout among which are creation of a Facebook page, creation of a newsletter for base membership and emailing of event reminders. Chuck has also contacted other clubs and has attended community events that have generated good interest. For 2012 he is looking to increase the overall number of event days and to find additional, less expensive venues. His West Coast team of Albert Popalis, Brian Meyers and Jason Ball is stepping down following the September Brooksville event. A big THANK YOU to all of them for their years of dedicated service. Chuck needs VOLUNTEERS to manage that program in order to keep the west coast events going. Contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Rally/Rally Cross – Doug McCabe – Is continuing talks with a couple of venues in the general Orlando area for RallyX. He would like information from all areas of our Region on potential sites. Sites need to be about 10 acres and can be mixture of dirt, gravel or pavement – unused pasture works well. Setup for RallyX is very similar to Solo. Contact him at email@example.com.
