 SARRC Report 2010

There is some really exciting news for the SARRC series in 2010. For the first time ever, the July 4th Southeast Division races at Roebling Road will be a Double SARRC event. And to add to the event, the Division will also conduct a Double ECR event. The races will be conducted over three days with the ECR races scheduled on day one and two and the SARRC races on day two and three. Day one will also include a full day of qualifying for all races. For those classes that can compete in both SARRC & ECR, there will be a one price covers all races entry fee. The Double SARRC/Double ECR will also be the first ever SEDiv Director’s Challenge race. A special trophy will be presented annually to the Director from Area 3 or Area 12 whose drivers have the best overall finish average for all 4 races. Basically, it is Florida ( Area 3) against the rest of the SEDiv states ( Area 12).
For those who might be new to the Southeast Division, let me introduce you to SARRC. SARRC is the South Atlantic Road Racing Championships. SARRC is SCCA’s biggest and most successful race series. There is no fee to pay to join SARRC. All the racing Regions of the SEDiv conduct from 2 to 5 SARRC races each year, many of which are Double race events (two point races on the same weekend). The SARRC season ends with a final double points Championship race each year at Roebling Road, the SARRC Invitational Challenge ( SIC). In order to compete at the SIC and be eligible for yearend awards, you must enter three SARRC races during the SARRC season. The SARRC season starts the weekend after the SIC. The only requirement for drivers is that the SARRC decal must be displayed on each side of your car and you must permanently attach the official SARRC patch to your driver’s suit. Patches and decals are normally available at the track from either tech or merchandise.
The SARRC Championship is determined by totaling points for the best 6 regular season SARRC race finishes plus the double points for the SIC. Points are 24 for first place all the way down to 1 point for eighteenth place. The SARRC Champions each year receive a personalized monogrammed jacket, plaque, gear bag, t shirts, patches and decals. In addition, the Champion receives two free banquet tickets to the annual SEDiv Awards Banquet where the winner is presented all their awards. We just completed the 2009 Awards Banquet where 28 Champions were presented their SARRC awards. Twenty-six other SARRC Award winners were also present. The 2010 Banquet is scheduled on January 22, 2011 at the Oceanside Inn & Suites located on Jekyll Island, Georgia.
The SARRC Committee is aware of the difficulties some of our competitors maybe having and has again waived the SARRC rule requiring three finishes in order to be eligible for the SIC. Again, as last year, drivers will only be required to enter three SARRC races in order to be eligible for the SIC. In addition, we are aware that some drivers may want to take advantage of Nationals new finish four National races and be eligible for the SCCA Runoffs at Road America. Thus, the Committee is waiving the rule that if you enter the SCCA Runoffs, you will not be eligible to enter the SIC or be eligible for the SARRC Championship. However, any driver who should finish in the top six positions at the Runoffs will still not be eligible for the SIC or any SARRC awards. The SIC is scheduled at Roebling Road on October 9 & 10, 2010.
This year at the SIC, we will also conduct the first ever ECR finale double points Championship race. The ECR finale will be at the conclusion of qualifying on Saturday. The race will be 1.5 hours and will be for all ECR legal classes. Preference of entry will be given to drivers who have entered three ECR races during the regular season. This will be the final ECR race for 2010 and the 2011 season will commence with the next ECR race. This change puts ECR on the same calendar with SARRC.
For information on the 2010 SARRC race schedule, current points, rules, contacts and other information about all other SEDiv programs, please visit the SARRC website at www.sedivracing.org. I hope to see all of you at an upcoming SARRC race soon. Happy racing in 2010.
